Welcome to Boys' Vintage Toys.
I named/bought the domain name of this site before I really made up my mind what I wanted to include on the web site and to be frank, ‘Boys’ Vintage Toys’ is rather misleading. It should really be called the ‘Boys’ toys , mostly boats , that I had as a child and lost , broke or gave away. Also toys that I would have liked from decades ago ,especially Meccano/Hornby electric trains from the 1930s and larger Star yachts, that now I have a bit more disposable income I have acquired , and stuffed virtually every nook and cranny in our modest semi-detached house with these lovely toys.’ , but that’s a bit long winded.
Anyhow , thank you for visiting my site , and you are most welcome to browse these pages and view these lovely toys from such distinguished makers such as Sutcliffe , Hornby (Meccano),Triang and Bowman to name but a few. Although predominantly English toys feature on this site , there are lovely toys from Hong Kong , GDR , USA and Japan amongst others.
This site also aims to celebrate the lesser known toys from the 1960s/70s. The toys that appeared in newsagents and toy shop windows. The toys made by manufacturers that you had never heard of. The Hong Kong / Empire made toys that you could afford if you had a paper round. The toys that were sold in seaside kiosks. I remember my local newsagent’s, ,Dysons in Davyhulme, having two Sutcliffe submarines in the window ; The Sea Wolf and the Nautilus. I was in awe. Did I buy one ? Well , no I didn’t , as at the time I had acquired a Puch Maxi moped from my brother to ride on waste land near our house ,and my paper round money went on spark plugs and ‘half a gallon of 2 star and a shot of 20:1’.
I am not expert on any of the toys on these pages, and there are websites that cover some of the major manufacturers and brands, and their history, such as Meccano/Hornby , Star yachts and Sutcliffe, so I won’t ramble on at length.
Also , I am not a web designer, a fact that you will see all too quickly when browsing the pages. There are bad photos and badly taken , shaky videos. You may click on many of the images and it will open up a gallery to show more pictures , and sometimes a video ,of the toy.
I think you get the drift ... At the top of this page ,I do have a link to my other web site that I sell one or two items every now and then.
Even though I have a big collection , I don’t have the complete range of any toys from any manufacturer. It's an eclectic mix of toys that give me great satisfaction in owning.
