Keil kraft was the brand name of E. Keil & Co. Ltd of Wicklow , Essex , England. They made balsa aeroplane kits that were either unpowered gliders, rubber powered , or glow / diesel engine powered. Keil Kraft also made numerous accessories for models.

This lovely aeroplane is powered by the 049 Testors/McCoy 0.049 cu ins./0.8 cm3 glow plug engine. These planes were fairly robust , especially compared to the Cox aeroplanes of similar vintage. The one weak spot was the fuel tank on the earlier version that also doubled as the engine mount , and is easily broken in a hard 'nose in' crash. New tanks , and indeed all parts , were available and reasonably priced back in the day , but serviceable fuel tanks are rather hard to come by these days. The later version had a much more durable arrangement. The supplied power clip for the glow plug had a battery connection that fitted the Ever Ready AD4 . These AD4 batteries were a dry cell , therefore not rechargeable , and cost quite a lot of money. Today , I use a 2V lead acid rechargeable battery with a few high wattage resistors to drop the voltage to 1.5V.

Much less common version of the Hurricane.

Also , much less common than the green version.
